Never did I think I'd write about something serious but there's always a first time for everything, ain't it?
The reports of a five year old girl being brutally raped has been literally messing with my head and sends shivers down my spine every time there is an update about it in the news.
No, she did not have a boy friend.
I don't think she ever asked her parents for a mini skirt.
She was born a girl... and that, was her ultimate sin.
Faith in humanity has literally sunk to a new low, at least for me!! Looks like women in India are neither safe outside the womb nor inside. Besides, with all of this happening in Delhi- the national capital, our reputation of being part of a country which holds it's "culture and heritage" on a high pedestal is going down the drain.
Really, I can't quite put a finger on what's really wrong with our Indian men?! It's not like we're in a country where there is absolutely no access to pornography to satiate their sexual frustration. Is this a birth defect?? What do you call this hideous act? An exhibition of masculine power? Self gratification gone wrong? What is this?!!
We women have tried everything as well. We've covered ourselves head to toe, we're literally holding ourselves hostage at our respective homes post 9 PM and asking a stranger's help is just out of the question coz Mommy told us not to talk to strangers. And you still can't stop yourself, can you creepy guy?! You do not hesitate to worship your precious Goddess Lakshmi for long lasting wealth and you don't think twice before you undress that girl in the bus stop with your bare eyes OR molesting little children whenever, wherever (gender no bar). Please tell us what to do to save ourselves from your evil clutches because it seems like everything we do happens to turn you on!
Even if 21st December 2012 was not the end of world, we did see the end of humanity as we knew it. I'm scared to even think about what the future holds for our country, our children and our men folk. Right now, it's not the brightest of visions. Apart from teaching our sons better and changing the way women are projected in our society, I can't think of a solution to make it better.
