To Fall In Love...

You'll find love when u'll least expect it, they said.

I never did look for love. Being single worked for me. Thought I'd do horrible in a relationship, even convinced myself I was commitment phobic. I seldom understood this mushy feeling my other committed friends talked about. I had even decided that the only way I'd even find a guy for myself is when my parents push me to get married- the arranged type to be exact.

Apart from all of the above, there was an other side to me. One who like every other girl dreamt of finding the perfect boy. A guy who'd treat her as an equal, who'd make her laugh and who'd love the things that she adored too. As surprising as it may sound, I am a romantic. I had a wishlist of things I looked forward to in a guy. I would be lying if I said I never had crushes. Just that the ones I fancied were either taken or were in the friend zone.

And one fine day, I did find Mr. Perfect who was the manifestation of my wishlist. As awesome as the feeling was, I brushed it off thinking it would never happen. Why would an amazing Guy like him go out with a girl like me? 'it'll never happen, don't keep your hopes up',  I thought. We started off as friends with no hints of attraction what so ever.

But the universe had other plans. Little did I know Mr. Perfect started developing feelings for me too and he even confessed at one point of time. I decided to let go off myself and said yes. 4 months later I'm the girl who I'd never thought I'll ever be and I've realized when you find the one, you're bound to adapt. Trust me, it's a good thing!

And now, I've become one of those people who tells other single folks "don't worry, you'll find love when you least expect it!". Coz when you do, it feels amazing.

Nothing you can ever compare to!

Girl power meets its Kryptonite

Never did I think I'd write about something serious but there's always a first time for everything, ain't it?

The reports of a five year old girl being brutally raped has been literally messing with my head and sends shivers down my spine every time there is an update about it in the news.

No, she did not have a boy friend.
I don't think she ever asked her parents for a mini skirt.

She was born a girl... and that, was her ultimate sin.

Faith in humanity has literally sunk to a new low, at least for me!! Looks like women in India are neither safe outside the womb nor inside. Besides, with all of this happening in Delhi- the national capital, our reputation of being part of a country which holds it's "culture and heritage" on a high pedestal is going down the drain.

Really, I can't quite put a finger on what's really wrong with our Indian men?! It's not like we're in a country  where there is absolutely no access to pornography to satiate their sexual frustration. Is this a birth defect?? What do you call this hideous act? An exhibition of masculine power? Self gratification gone wrong? What is this?!!

We women have tried everything as well. We've covered ourselves head to toe, we're literally holding ourselves hostage at our respective homes post 9 PM and asking a stranger's help is just out of the question coz Mommy told us not to talk to strangers. And you still can't stop yourself, can you creepy guy?! You do not hesitate to worship your precious Goddess Lakshmi for long lasting wealth and you don't think twice before you undress that girl in the bus stop with your bare eyes OR molesting little children whenever, wherever (gender no bar). Please tell us what to do to save ourselves from your evil clutches because it seems like everything we do happens to turn you on!

Even if 21st December 2012 was not the end of world, we did see the end of humanity as we knew it. I'm scared to even think about what the future holds for our country, our children and our men folk. Right now, it's not the brightest of visions. Apart from teaching our sons better and changing the way women are projected in our society, I can't think of a solution to make it better.

We are like this only!!

Ah India... Land of peace, cultural diversity, Yoga and Bollywood...

Putting all that aside, Let me cut straight to the people. Us Indians I tell you, we are such a twisted bunch of people. Drama is something which is innate and part of our daily lives.

Confused? Let me explain.

Everyone around the world have Monday morning blues but in India we take it to a whole new level.. we have successfully managed  to turn it into Monday morning rage. Say you are heading to work on your bike in the morning and to your luck you woke up late, I bet there is a traffic jam waiting to happen for you complete with a narrow road, a huge lorry and angry auto rickshaw guys with loud horns and bad driving skills. Voila! Monday morning rage..

Speaking of rickshaw guys, they're a bigger menace here than Rabies and AIDS put together!! They are the self proclaimed high priests of transportation.. You just can't argue with 'em. They will NEVER travel to the places you want to go to. If they do, they will ALWAYS charge you an exorbitant fare or if they switch on their meter you are BOUND hear him say "Saar, 20 rupees extra on meter" sooner or later. Some poor souls use auto rickshaws as their daily mode of transport, battling everyday with these insensitive excuses for human beings.

For some damn reason these auto guys really fascinate me..so much that my phone charm is a tiny colorful auto :P Undoubtedly they're a big part of our crazy lifestyle. As much as I don't want to say this, with their loud mouths and quirky slogans on the back of their machines they complete India.

And its not just them.. each and every person in the country has a special attribute which makes them unique. An Indian aunty will always try her best to arrange your marriage with a geeky NRI, grandparents will always start their conversation with the words "hamare zamane mein...", You are bound to see kids saying phrases like "Green green bath room clean" or "Shame shame puppy shame!!". Men will always love their facial hair and women will always have a strange obsession about the color of their face.

Best part is, we are not apologetic about our behavior. There is an order in our dis functionality and that's the beauty of it.. Even if India becomes a super power in the future, I bet you'll still find people being more petrified of black cats running across the street coz we are like this only :)

Life Transitions...

I have exactly 9 hours 6 mins before my college reopens and my 2nd semester of M.Com kick starts.. Last year exactly at this time, I had clients leaving for their vacations to different exotic destinations which I had planned for them.. Never did I imagine then that I would quit my job and pick up the books again..

It all seems so surreal now, even perhaps a distant dream that I worked for a whole year before I had enough of the corporate sector.. Even though I had a fun job of crafting people's dream vacations and a decent salary,  my mind was never at peace. I always wanted to finish my masters before I started building my career and the thought kept bothering me.. I had got my taste of the "work culture", so I stepped back to being a student and frankly, it was the best decision I ever made..

For all you final year students who are confused as to what to do next- I'd say take a year off.. Do what you love, explore your options, if you're interested then get some corporate experience and jump back into studies... Trust me, it helps a LOT... It helps you understand life which is not monitored by the educational system (which you've been part of  for 16 years at least). Also, you get to loaf around a li'l *Grins like a maniac*

And yes, once you get back to studying after a break you will doubt yourself if you'll be able to sit through lectures and write exams again and yes, I did too... Frankly, assignment submission deadlines or exam stress never got to me because in the past one year I had been put through such stressful situations which would even make onions cry!! And this is coming from a girl who would start panicking when the submission dates were weeks away..

Sometimes I think about what would have happened to me if I had stuck on to that cozy job of mine.. For starters, I wouldn't have come back to asking pocket money from dad every week and I would have definitely not taken the chance of quitting if I would have stayed another year there.. coz the cons would have been surely higher then..

Not to mention, I would have missed out on meeting the most interesting group of people.. who, I call "my friends".  Its not everyday you meet a die-hard foodie who would make you eat your own words, friends who teach concepts in 5 mins for which a teacher cannot clarify even after lecturing for hours, a person who loves gadgets as much as you do and more and is literally your guide to all the latest tech news, super humans who study in the day and work after hours making you think of how inefficient and nocturnal beings who sleep the mornings away and party at night (I simply like to call them Goobays :P) . So, go ahead people, take a break, enjoy all you can for a short time coz it's all about the timing... Take the call when it feels right..

The Magic that is Dubai!

Dubai had been part of my travel wish list for quite some time. Everything fell into place recently and my wish came true :)
The majestic Burj Khalifa

Dubai is everything what you've already heard of and more.. The playground for the rich and famous, City of Gold, yada yada.. Oh! and yes, there are Malayalis.. Loads of 'em :P That aside, the city's infrastructure is a constant reminder of the awesome power of the human mind.. The Burj Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab are the superstars here.. Every damn souvenir you see.. May it be a tee or even a teeny mobile charm.. They're there!! Apart from the engineering marvels, the beautiful sandy beach with its turquoise blue waters and the never ending majestic desert will definitely leave you spellbound.. All in all the city looks the perfect setting for any Arabian nights story (well, if there is a modern version of the same) :P

Must see, must dos:
  •  One must go on a tiny city tour to check out the culture, the people, the various attractions and shopping arenas Dubai has to offer. You can step out anytime day or night the city is totally safe and the locals are very helpful.. So take a walk, familiarize yourself with the places surrounding your hotel.
  • Want to get a feel of the Arabian desert winds? Then you must not miss the Desert Safari... The most amazing way to experience the desert EVER!! The 4X4 wheel dune bashing drive, dirt biking, camel rides, a barbeque dinner and entertainment in a desert camp in the middle of nowhere is truly worth it.
  • A visit to Dubai would be incomplete without visiting the Burj Khalifa- The tallest building in the World. Getting a ride on the fastest elevator in the World which takes you from 0 to 124th floor (where the observation deck is) in a minute can give you bitter- sweet/ great feeling! The view is absolutely breathtaking when your 452 meters above the sea level.. literally makes you feel like you're the King of the World :)
  • Also, don't miss a chance to stay at the Atlantis- a luxury resort on top of the man-made islands of Palm Jumairah. Or you can also just visit the resort and spend your day at Aquaventure- a kickass water park and the Lost Chambers- an beautiful aquarium showcasing a vibrant collection of aquatic life forms which is bound to take your breath away.
  • If you've got more time at hand and a car enthusiast, you could visit the Ferrari World Abu Dubai which will definitely blow your mind away with its simulators, exhibits and Ferrari themed rides
  • Shop like there's no tomorrow!! In Dubai you get to splurge your heart's content on something small as a keychain to a gold plated Iphone!! With its various malls and shopping centres, it has something to offer for everyone!!!
  • The Arabian Desert
  • Not to forget the food... If you're a foodie, the trip wouldn't be complete without trying the local cuisine.. Believe me, the Shawarmas and Falafels are to die for here!! :)
 Thumbs down to:
  • Dhow Cruise: when I first heard about it, I thought a cruise along the creek of Dubai with food and entertainment would be a fun thing to do but in reality nobody mentioned to me that the food would suck, the entertainment would be a mallu magician and the boat would be old and dirty... This is just a tourist rip off.. Instead one can just take a taxi to the creek and take a walk, the experience is more amazing this way :)
  • The heat is UNBEARABLE...Especially from May to August.. So make sure you always carry your umbrella and your shades to protect yourself during the day.
All in all.. Dubai really matched up to my expectations, making me want to come back for more... It's fun, it has a hidden beauty to it and it's got something for everyone!! I would highly recommend a pit-stop here if you are west bound or just want have a fun filled holiday with family or friends..

The Men we Love, Know and Hate...

"Damn! How I wish I was a guy!!"

Lines like this make men folk think they are a much better gender than us womenfolk... I am very sure all you ladies reading this would have thought of the same exact words many many times... I think about these words too and the truth is, I prefer hanging out with my male friends. My female friends are limited to a handful who I'd like to call "Soul Sisters" as they think and behave exactly like I do... :) I really like my male friends.. I really enjoy laughing at their PJs, talking about favorite rock bands and starting conversations with words like "Wazzzzzzaaaap" or "Macha/ Dude, we should totally go to (Insert random place name)"... :P
As much as I hate to admit it, guy friends are so much more easy going, little things like who bitched about who really don't bother them and they look at life at a more broader angle than how we girls look at it.

Don't be too happy boys.. there are certain things us girls really hate about your kind... things that helps us console ourselves that we better off being girls.. I'm not generalizing things here, I'm just putting down stuff some of you men do that really puts us off...

  • WE want be ourselves all the time... it does not make it easier if y'all keep staring at us like you want to eat us up.. here's a tip.. picture's last longer
  • We are not too happy when you "treat the whole world as your toilet".. That's just super gross
  • We really don't like it when guys try impart some Male chauvinistic ideas to us... Treat us like equals and we'll love you for it
  • AND the pick up lines.. really, they only ruin your chances of getting the girl..
I can keep going on for days about this... But my point is, it is things like these makes us wonder how Justin Timberlake, Shah Rukh Khan, that really good  friend of yours who happens to be a boy and that creepy guy in the bus who tries his luck on you come from the same species... Come to think of it, men are quite confusing... We just have to be glad that we know all the good one's from the lot :P ;) We really love y'all but then y'all have to admit that some of the creeps in your kind really don't make it easier for us...

PS: No disrespect meant to all the guys I know... You guys very well know how much I adore y'all :)

Puppy love!!

As this is my first attempt to blogging I want to make it more special by writing about my babies- Scooby and Dooby.. my 11 year old Boxer brother and sister duo.. Ever since these guys were puppies they never ceased to amaze us (me and my family that is).. Keep reading... you'll know why I'm saying this :P

I can still remember their first day when they were brought home.. They probably thought my parents kidnapped them because all they did was just hide in the bathroom and this is exactly why we called them Scooby and Dooby- such frightened li'l puppies both of them were and still are :)

Talking about courage.. Dooby is more like the warrior princess, she's got a high pitched voice and likes to try her luck to scare off people with it but Scooby on the other hand is what I would like to call- a little boy trapped in a dog's body... He just cannot survive without people around him.. He does the weirdest things when me and my family go out of town. For example, he once tried to wriggle through window bars (AND SUCCEEDED!!). He just cannot live with his kind.. Give him a nice comfy couch, some good food and a person to keep petting him he'll not ask for anything else..

The funniest thing about these guys are that they like coconut oil and shredded coconut.. Even if they get the slightest sound of my mom shredding coconuts they run into the kitchen and wait to get some.. or they'll just sneak in and lick the whole kitchen counter clean.. Also, they do this dance, whenever they see biscuits.. The dance is more like a doggie version of salsa.. lol :D

Dogs are just priceless... they can pee on your living room carpet and still make it look cute by giving the "puppy dog eyes" Their sloppy licks can make your worries shrink smaller, what can I say? I'm just smitten by doggie love :)

Even as I write this post, Scooby is sitting next to me on a bean bag giving me occassional stares to switch off the system so he can sleep in peace... So, I better go.. let my baby catch up on his sleep :P :)
